John Milton was an English poet and writer on religious and political questions. His work includes epic poetry, shorter verse and arguments about liberty and public life. Elevated language gives large moral and spiritual conflicts a dramatic form. Freedom, responsibility and the consequences of disobedience are central concerns in his writing.
