R. S. Ball

was an Irish astronomer, mathematician, and science writer who helped make the study of the heavens accessible to a broad readership. Known more fully as Sir Robert Stawell Ball, he combined a distinguished scientific career with an enthusiasm for public explanation. His books invite readers to approach immense distances and unfamiliar celestial events with curiosity.
