About

First published in 1529, Luther’s Small Catechism was written for training both children and adults in the Christian faith. The Catechism covers the Ten Commandments, the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, Confession, and the Sacrament of the Altar.

Still widely used by Lutherans and many other Christians today, the Small Catechism provides a thorough yet simple education of the basics of the Christian faith.

Martin Luther

was a German theologian, preacher, translator, and hymn writer whose works helped shape the Protestant Reformation. Best known for his Ninety-Five Theses, his German Bible translation, and his Small Catechism, he brought questions of faith and religious authority to a broad readership. His direct, vigorous prose made complex theological arguments accessible beyond universities and monasteries.
