Watercolor portrait of Oliver Goldsmith with scenes inspired by their writing.

Oliver Goldsmith

was an Irish novelist, poet, and playwright best known for The Vicar of Wakefield, She Stoops to Conquer, and The Deserted Village. His writing combines humor with sympathy for human weakness, moving between domestic misfortune, social misunderstanding, and reflections on rural life. His versatility made him a distinctive presence in eighteenth-century English-language literature.
