Set in the rugged landscape of Wyoming, the novel explores themes of honor, justice, and personal integrity as the Virginian navigates life on the frontier. He becomes involved in a romantic relationship with a schoolteacher from the East named Molly Stark Wood, whose values and background contrast with his own.
