Three Men in a Boat
About
(To Say Nothing of the Dog)
A humorous account of a two-week boating holiday on the River Thames by three men and a dog. Initially intended to be a travel guide, the book weaves local history with witty humor. The characters include the narrator, based on Jerome himself, and his two companions based on Jerome’s real-life friends. The dog, Montmorency is entirely fictional, but “as Jerome admits, developed out of the area of inner consciousness which, in all Englishmen, contains element of the dog.
