Maria Edgeworth was an Anglo-Irish novelist and writer of stories for children. Her work examines education, family relationships and the habits of different social groups. Practical choices reveal the strengths and weaknesses of her characters. Wit and an interest in everyday consequences connect her adult fiction with her educational tales.
