About the Author

Maria Edgeworth was a prolific Anglo-Irish writer known for her influential novels, children’s literature, and essays. Born in Oxfordshire, England, she was the second of 22 children in a large, blended family. After her mother’s death, her father, Richard Lovell Edgeworth, moved the family to their estate in County Longford, Ireland, where Maria spent most of her life.
