A historical adventure novel set during the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878–1880). The story follows the courageous young protagonist, William Gale, who through many stirring adventures among the Malays, finds his way to Calcutta and enlists in the army headed for the Afghan passes. He accompanies the force under General Roberts to the Peiwar Kotal, is wounded, taken prisoner, and takes part in the final defeat of the army of Ayoub Khan.
First published in 1886, this edition is derived from the original book with 8 black & white illustrations by Gordon Browne. As always, this edition is complete and unabridged.
