Hard Times
by Charles Dickens
About
For These Times
The shortest of Dicken’s novels, Hard Times surveys English society and satirizes the social and economic conditions of the era. “My satire is against those who see figures and averages, and nothing else,” proclaimed Charles Dickens in explaining the theme of his classic novel. The book follows a classical tripartite structure with 3 books: Sowing, Reaping, and Garnering.
First published in 1854 with no illustrations, this edition is derived from the book published in 1877 with 20 black & white illustrations by Henry French. As always, this edition is complete and unabridged.
