This is a story of Spartan courage and endurance. Through the eyes of Chartas, a boy of Sparta, we catch a glimpse into the typical upbringing of Spartan children. At the young age of only seven years old Chartas leaves home to be reared among his peers by community elders. As the boys are formed into soldiers, the ideals of patriotism, loyalty, and strength in battle are a constant focus.

First published in 1914, this edition is derived from the original book with 6 black & white illustrations by John Goss. As always, this edition is complete and unabridged.
