Peter Pan

Originally published as a play in 1904 and a novel in 1911, Peter and Wendy is J. M. Barrie’s most famous work.  Both the novel and play tell the story of Peter Pan, a boy who can fly, who befriends Wendy Darling and her two brothers.  Their friendship leads to many adventures on the island of Neverland where they encounter Indians, pirates, mermaids, and fairies.

This edition is derived from the original 1911 book and features 13 illustrations by F. D. Bedford. As always, this edition is complete and unabridged.

J. M. Barrie

was a Scottish novelist and playwright best known for creating Peter Pan. The ninth child of a handloom weaver, Barrie developed a love for storytelling at an early age, inspired by his mother’s tales and the tragic loss of his older brother, David, who died in an accident. This loss deeply affected his mother and influenced Barrie’s fascination with themes of eternal youth and the passage of time.
