Kate Douglas Wiggin

was an influential American author and educator, best known for her timeless classic, "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm." Born in Philadelphia, Wiggin's early life was marked by a passion for literature and education. She embarked on a career in teaching, co-founding the first free kindergarten in San Francisco in 1878. This pioneering endeavor laid the foundation for her later work in early childhood education.
