About
From the Original Italian
Considered the first Gothic novel, Walpole blends elements of romance, the supernatural, and dark intrigue. The story is set in a mysterious and foreboding castle and revolves around the usurping Prince Manfred, who seeks to secure his family’s rule. When his son, Conrad, is tragically killed on his wedding day by a giant helmet falling from the sky, Manfred becomes desperate to continue his lineage.
