Horace Walpole

the fourth Earl of Orford, was an English writer, art historian, and politician, best known for his contributions to Gothic literature and his eccentric aesthetic tastes. Born in London, he was the youngest son of Sir Robert Walpole, Britain’s first de facto prime minister. Horace was educated at Eton College and King’s College, Cambridge, where he formed lasting friendships with notable figures such as Thomas Gray, the poet. His privileged upbringing provided him with access to political and social circles, though his career in politics was secondary to his literary and artistic pursuits.
