Ann Radcliffe

was a pioneering English author who became one of the most prominent figures of the Gothic fiction genre. Born Ann Ward in Holborn, London, she was the only child of William and Ann Ward. Her father worked as a tradesman, and her family later moved to Bath, a city whose romantic landscapes and architecture would greatly influence her work.
