Twenty-year-old Alleyne leaves the Catholic abbey where he has been raised and ventures out to see the world. He soon meets up with John of Hordle and veteran archer Sam Aylward, who has been sent to recruit mercenaries for the White Company.  Many adventures ensue including love and war.

First published in 1891, this edition is derived from the book published in 1922 with 14 color illustrations by N. C. Wyeth.  As always, this edition is complete and unabridged.

Arthur Conan Doyle

was a British writer best known for his creation of the famous detective character Sherlock Holmes. He was born on May 22, 1859, in Edinburgh, Scotland, into a prosperous Irish-Catholic family. Conan Doyle studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and worked as a doctor before turning to a full-time career in writing.
