The story follows Rex Bateman, the son of an English merchant, during the Siege of Pekin during the Boxer Rebellion. Rex rescues his cousins, two girls, from the Boxers just at the outbreak of war. Throughout the adventure, Rex encounters numerous challenges, including battles with Boxer forces, navigating political tensions, and forming new alliances.

First published in 1903, this edition is derived from the original book with 8 black & white illustrations by Wal Paget and a single map. As always, this edition is complete and unabridged.
